Algeria has agreed to buy 17 Aero Vodochody L-39AZ recon-attack fighters from the Czech Republic. These were manufactured a decade ago for an unknown client in Africa, which never accepted delivery. These will be refurbished before delivery to Algeria. (The ZA derivative is a variant of the L-39 trainer, which was built by Czechoslovakia for use by the entire Warsaw Pact.) Algeria already has 39 other L-39s, including L-39C trainers and L-39ZA recon-attack types.--Stephen V Cole
