The British Army has received all 30 of the Shielder minelaying vehicles it ordered from Alliant. These fully-tracked vehicles (using Stormer chassis) carry a system of canisters that can "toss" anti-tank mines to either side. The vehicle has two larger canister racks (one on each side, with 40 canisters each) and two smaller ones (20 canisters each) on the rear corners (which can be swiveled from side to rear if necessary). If needed, another 30 canisters can be fitted. Each canister contains six anti-tank mines; when the canister is fired, the mines are scattered at various distances from the vehicle. The crew remains completely under armor while laying the mines; the canisters are of course reloaded when not under enemy fire.--Stephen V Cole
