France reports that while 100% of its nuclear forces will be Y2K compliant by New Year's Eve, only 60-80% of the rest of the military's computer software will run without problems. --Stephen V Cole

NATO is interested in an evolving program of airborne radars that can track the movement of ground vehicles. The US and four other nations are pursuing advanced applications of JSTARS. France, Germany, and Italy are working on SoStar, an airborne radar based on the previous Horizon and Creso programs. Britain is pursuing its own program known as ASTOR (Airborne Stand Off Radar). NATO's Council of National Armaments Directors has advised all of the programs to exchange information and try to maintain a working relationship. --Stephen V Cole
