For ten years, the Canadian navy has been trying to get new helicopters to replace the now 40 year old SeaKings they use on their warships. The two dozen Seakings are so old that they require 30 hours of maintenance per flight hour and even that isn't enough. The SeaKings are flown as little as possible. The government has refused suggested replacements because the politicians consider the new helicopters too expensive. Last week, a SeaKing suffered an engine failure was it was lifting off from a destroyer, and crashed back onto the flight deck, injuring two men on the chopper and suffering extensive damage.
