Britain has reduced the competition to design a new shoulder-fired light anti-tank weapon to Bofors Carl Gustav of Sweden and Matra of France, giving each $16.7 million to provide demonstration weapons. One of them will win the $450 million contract in 2002, with the first missiles in service by 2006.--Stephen V Cole

Greece is to receive seven new CH-47D Chinook helicopters from the US for $200 million in 2001. The Greeks already have nine CH-47Ds, but these were CH-47Cs converted to D-models. --Stephen V Cole
