EADS (the European aircraft consortium) scored its second export success for the Eurofighter Typhoon when Austria ordered 18 (with options for six more). But the success was costly; EADS had to agree to buy $5.4 billion worth of Austrian products (including putting Austria into the business of making parts for Airbus and Typhoon) in order to get the $1.8 billion deal. Typhoon's only other success was in Greece, which is unhappy with its deal and plans to reopen negotiations and may switch to an American or Russian fighter.--Stephen V Cole
