: The Pentagon is paying nearly two million dollars a month for the exclusive right to all photos taken of the Afghanistan war zone by the Ikonos commercial photographic satellite. The move has two advantages: potential enemies cannot buy the photos, and the commercial ones are available to the Pentagon to give to allied nations without compromising the superior abilities of US military spy satellites.--Stephen V Cole
