: German opposition parties complain that the Social Democratic Party government has not allocated enough money for defense modernization and procurement. Over the next 12 years, the Germans expect to buy:

@ 180 Eurofighter Typhoon multi-role fighters

@ 134 NH90 multi-role helicopters

@ 73 Airbus A400M transports

@ One SAR-Lupe radar surveillance satellite

@ 80 Eurocopter Tiger attack helicopters

@ 3000 MRAV armored vehicles

@ Five K130 corvettes

@ Three type-124 anti-aircraft frigates

@ Eight Type-212A diesel submarines

The opposition parties say that these will cost 100 billion Deutchesmarks (about $44 billion), while the government has allocated only 70 billion.--Stephen V Cole
