Romania has reorganized its military command structure from the Soviet model to the NATO pattern. This consisted of redesignating the Deputy Chief of Staff for Naval Operations as the Chief of Naval Forces (Rear Admiral Rudencu) and the Deputy Chief of Staff for Aviation as the Chief of the Air Forces (General Gheorghe). The Romanians feel this will improve their chances of being invited to join NATO.--Stephen V Cole
