US bombs fell on an ammo depot and a road block in eastern Afghanistan in an attempt to help government forces who had come under fire. The various warlords in the area along the Pakistani border have more money, guns and involvement in the drug trade and are not keen to allow government control in the area. The government has already publicly come out against the drug trade. 

Saudi Arabia and other Gulf nations have sent transports to carry Afghans to the annual Hadj (pilgrimage to Mecca). Commercial airlines are reluctant to carry Afghan pilgrims after the murder of the Afghan Aviation minister in Kabul.

An American "assessment team" led by a major general has arrived to help with the formation of a new Afghan army.
