It was expected that many road building projects would begin once peace was restored. But only one major project is underway, the 482 kilometer highway from Kabul to the largest city in the south, Kandahar. Starting additional road rebuilding projects has been delayed by corruption, disputes with local warlords, lack of security (especially for the expensive construction equipment and building materials that have to be brought in.) There are many minor road repair projects. Afghanistan's roads have had little maintenance over the last two decades, and much war damage.

The national government has gathered leaders from the zbek Junbish militia, the 
 Tajik Jamiat militia and the Hezb-i Wahdat (Hazaras) to work out a compromise over the fighting between these groups over  control of  the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif.

Italian paratroopers, searching for weapons in the south, found and destroyed 400 mortar shells, 520 artillery shells, 150 107mm rockets and a quantity of fuses for these weapons. These raids are usually guided by information obtained by intelligence networks established by American Special Forces.
