A month of record breaking cold has brought a halt to most combat operations, and killed nearly a thousand Afghans (mostly children) from exposure and disease (especially pneumonia). Day after day of freezing temperatures, and snow, has restricted movement in many villages. Thus antibiotics, or other medical aid, could not get to places where people had pneumonia. The Taliban have announced they will start attacking again once it warms up.
