Riots and demonstrations by the Berber minority has left some 80 dead and nearly 600 wounded. The Berber political party, the RDC, has withdrew from the government. One policeman was killed and 388 injured. Berber unrest has long been a problem in Algeria, although it has been overshadowed by the Islamic rebel violence. Rebels killed ten civilians 50 kilometers south of the capital.
