The government is treating the rebels as more of a bandit problem these days. Increasingly, local people are willing to inform on the rebels. This makes it harder for the rebels to move around freely, and easier for the police to find and destroy the rebel camps. Unless the public attitude towards the Islamic radical rebels does not change, the rebels will be out of business in another year or so. But public anger at the government still remains and a new rebel organization is likely to arise unless political reforms are made.
