Some 55 kilometers north of the capital, Bishop Jorge Enrique Jimenez and a local priest were kidnapped by FARC rebels. It is thought that the bishop was taken to provide captives to be traded for senior FARC leaders held by the government.

In several operations, troops killed 11 rebels. Overnight, two bombs went off in the capital.
