When India and Pakistan massed troops on their border last year, both armies laid many thousands of mines. Since most of the troops have now been pulled back to their bases, the mines have to be removed (many of them were planted in farmland.) The Indian army has, so far, lost 80 troops and civilians while removing all these mines. The civilian casualties come from people wandering into the minefields accidentally. 

In Quetta, Pakistan, police, assisted by US agents, arrested an Egyptian suspected of belonging to al Qaeda. US intelligence agencies and staff continue to collect intelligence on al Qaeda in Pakistan, and so far, local police have arrested over 400 suspects identified by this operation.
