  In Kashmir, police say they killed Islamic militant leader (of Lashkar-e-Taiba) Manzoor Zahid Choudhary in a chance encounter. They recovered weapons and a laptop computer. This could be embarrassing for Pakistan if anything implicating the Pakistani government is found on the computer. Pakistan will deny everything, of course. But many Indians will believe, and that will increase the chance of war. 

In eastern India, villagers fought back against marauding Maoist rebels, and killed nine of them. The Maoist rebels live off the local people they are trying to "liberate," but the locals see this as extortion by bandits.
