An American official said that Osama bin Laden was close to being caught, and much progress had been made in the past two months. Pakistani officials later said they knew nothing of this. That makes sense. Given the number of pro-Taliban and Islamic radical people in the Pakistani army and intelligence services, any information the U.S. had on bin Laden's whereabouts, would not be shared with the Pakistanis.
