Thousands of Israeli troops are going into Palestinian towns and searching house to house for terrorist suspects. Israeli intelligence (electronic and via informers) provides some information on who the terrorists are and where they operate from (to store weapons, build bombs or house personnel, including suicide bombers). The raids are an attempt to arrest the key terrorist staff and seize weapons, equipment and documents. The Palestinians will often resist strenuously, but mainly with men armed with assault rifles and grenades.
