Turkey commuted the death sentence of PKK leader Abdullah Apo Ocalan. He will serve a life sentence without parole. This is a smart political move. Apo still has a lot of Kurd support and letting him live is an easy nod toward long-term reconciliation. He also remains under firm Turkish control. A dead man can become a myth. (Austin Bay)
