The rebels broke the four month ceasefire by attacking several police stations, killing at least 34 police and soldiers. Two banks were also robbed of $788,000 by rebels. The rebels were upset that there was not progress in the talks and had backed off on the idea of abandoning their long standing demand that the monarchy be eliminated. The government has been willing to compromise more than the rebels, but this has not been enough to move things forward.
