August 24, 2006: The ceasefire is starting to come apart. The deal was that the Maoists would become part of the new government once the Maoists disarmed. But the Maoists could not agree on that, so the Maoists have kept their weapons. Moreover, the thousands of Maoist gunmen need to eat, and they have resumed their extortion scams in order to raise money. This fund raising was supposed to halt during the ceasefire. But if there is no money, there is no food for the Maoist fighters.
