Police seized a truck, its two man crew, and 32,510 round of ammunition they were smuggling to criminal gangs. Smuggling ammo is a big business in Nigeria, and last year the police managed to intercept 420,281 rounds of ammunition before it reached its destination. Gun battles between police and criminal suspects are common, so much so that the police tend to be rather trigger happy. Even the UN has complained, after an investigation, that the Nigerian police frequently shoot innocent civilians, and then try to cover up their actions by claiming that the victims were criminals.
