The navy announced that Chinese warships and survey vessels have been more active around the disputed Spratly islands (most of which are just rocks or reefs.) The Chinese are now painting Chinese words on some of the exposed rocks. China, the Philippines and other countries had agreed to back off on the dispute over who really owns the Spratlies (and whatever oil might be in nearby waters). But China appears to have upped the ante.
