President Arroyo has been plagued by corruption charges for the last few months, and that has led to larger and more numerous public protests (crowds of up to 5,000 people). More troops have been sent to the capital to deal with the protests. So far, the promised evidence of this corruption has not surfaced. Much was expected from  Arroyo, but she has not made much progress in dealing with the widespread government corruption.
