Between 8 August 1999 and 22 March 2002, the Kremlin claims that only a total of 2,449 Russian Defense Ministry servicemen were killed in Dagestan and Chechnya, 5,898 wounded, and 26 are considered missing. The Interior Ministry lost 889 servicemen killed and 3,074 wounded in the same time period. - Adam Geibel
