  In the north, LTTE rebels attacked a coastal army base with a combined land and amphibious assault. The navy shot up the LTTE flotilla of small boats, but the ground attack continued. At least seven soldiers were killed and a dozen wounded after more than a day of fighting. In the south, police caught and arrested two army commandoes who had just robbed a bank..
