The 250 sailors who survived the attack on the USS Cole had a difficult time in more ways than one. The ship had virtually no electricity, meaning that the air conditioning (or even the ventilation system) didn't work in 90-degree-plus weather. The crew had to sleep on the deck because it was too dark, hot, and stale below. Afraid to eat food bought from the Yemenis, the crew borrowed canned food from another US ship (the USS Hawes) that arrived on the scene a day after the explosion.--Stephen V
