: The US Secret Service (which most countries would call the Treasury Police) have the duties of investigating counterfeiters and protecting the President and a few other senior officials. But the new War on Terror has given it a new role: masterminding security for large public gatherings. The Secret Service is already in charge of security for the Olympics and Super Bowl and will probably be picked to head the security teams for other major public events.--Stephen V Cole
