In the worst day of violence yet, seven Palestinians and three Israelis died. Palestinian gunmen ambushed a bus of Jewish settlers and killed three. Elsewhere, Palestinian policemen fired from a police station, which Israeli tank fire later destroyed. Palestinian  worshipers rioted in Jerusalem. Israel sealed off the Palestinian areas. Israeli police braced for the weekend, when the seven dead Palestinians would have their funerals, always a source of further unrest.
